Jenny

Visual artist

Jenny Tyler is a visual artist and has spent a lifetime creating beautiful works of art exploring many mediums. Her passion for light and colour led her to use coloured glass encased in timber. Jenny says that stained glass transforms a space into a harmonious symphony of colour and light.

Jenny has been making Leadlight windows, sculptures, totems and window hangings for 20 years. Her family used to restore old Queenslanders and most of them had Stained glass windows that she either repaired or made new ones to suit the period of the house. Jenny works from her studio in the Noosa Hinterland creating her unique pieces of Glass Art.

After graduating from Brisbane College of Art in 1972, spent the following years married to fellow artist Alan Purnell and raising a family west of Brisbane on acreage at Pine Mtn. While small cropping on the farm, Alan and Sue worked on establishing a Gallery and studio at home where they were able to create artwork and do their own picture framing.

Working in many mediums, watercolour, mixed media, acrylic, Sue created paintings that were exhibited at joint exhibitions in Ipswich and surrounds in the early days. After many years, a change in direction led Sue to study At ACNM and work with complimentary therapies in a home practise and hospice and nursing home in Ipswich.

Later years saw Sue move again, to the Gympie region and team up with fellow Artisan Papermaker and Bookbinder Dion Channer. Now residing in Glenwood, north of Gympie, Sue works from her studio creating original one off mosaic pieces, predominantly in glass, for lights of many forms. Candle holders, battery operated lights and beautiful mandala wall lights. She creates a large range of mosaic pieces and is currently working on home projects. Sue has successfully exhibited in joint exhibitions at Gympie Regional Gallery and from an outlet involving other Artisans, and other local venues over the past few years. Sue and Dion will be exhibiting at the Old Trade and Craft Fair at the Gympie showgrounds in October 2021 in conjunction with the Rotary Quilt Spectacular.
